The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake was recently released for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo remodeled the animation, music and some of the game’s mechanics while maintaining the same overworld, objectives and story.
The animation makes the characters now look “toy-like” and much of the music was changed to fit this cutesy style.
Most of the gameplay feels the same with a few key differences. Link can now aim in eight directions as opposed to four, which offers new freedom, yet is quite difficult to control precisely.
Another gameplay difference is that now many items no longer need to be equipped which makes gameplay feel more smooth since you don’t have to open the menu every time you want to use one of the many items.
The game is priced at $60. Queens College student Paul Dresner stated, “I can’t understand buying a remake for $60. It’s so overpriced.”
Due to the fact that the older remake of the game offers a very similar experience for under half the price, if you have a 3DS then you should just get that. If you only have a Switch, then you should get the newest version.
