For the past two decades, James Dolan has been the inherited owner of the New York Knicks organization and MSG franchise. Charles Dolan, father of James Dolan and previous owner of the franchises, was acknowledged as a “good owner” by most critics and fans.
The Knicks have had a losing record for almost two decades, making only two playoff appearances.
Dolan has turned New York basketball into a laughing stock in the NBA, and many of the NBA’s best athletes, such as Draymond Green, have publicly criticized him and his organization.
Lebron James called Madison Square Garden his “playground” last season as a Cleveland Cavalier.
As of late, many of us have heard Dolan’s name in many news reports. Within the past year, he has publicly banned fans from MSG for freedom of speech.
Former Knicks player, Charles Oakley, was detained and arrested for ridiculing the owner for tanking last year.
A fan told Dolan two weeks ago to “sell the team” after a Knicks game. The fan got detained and removed by security, and banned from the games. As Dolan exited the arena, he told the paying fan “Enjoy watching the games on TV.”
This isn’t a way owners should be able to act and there is a code of conduct that needs to be followed. Many believe the NBA should intervene and take action on James Dolan by forcing him to sell the franchise.
