A private school that is full of life, a bear as a mascot, and blue and yellow everywhere, what more is there to ask for? The New York Institute of Technology was founded in 1955 and has two campuses, one in Old Westbury and the other in Manhattan, NY.
On Sunday, October 26th, NYIT held an open house for all prospective students and their families. The open house started at 10:00 am, and had no definite ending time. This open house was held at the Manhattan campus.
“[This was my] first open house, I had a lot of fun and it was very interesting. [I’ve been] looking at colleges for a very long time. They did an awesome job at convincing me. They showed us [what] former students worked on. The possibilities were great. [I believe I’ll learn how to] speak to a crowd, affect people with my words and charisma,” freshman Ashley Godoy said.
When prospective students arrived, they were greeted by many welcoming faces. Every student received a bag that contained papers regarding financial aid, student campus life, scholarships, admissions requirements, and academic programs. Along with that, all students got a NYIT shirt.
“Although the building I visited didn’t have the profession I was looking for, the open house really captured my attention by having such a wide range of majors,” senior Jacob Godoy said.
This open house gave prospective students many opportunities throughout the day. Everyone that attended got to learn about academic programs, figure out the admission process, tour the NYIT campus and facilities, and get informed about the scholarships/all financial aid available.
Talking to faculty, current students and alumni and their NYIT experience is beneficial for students looking to plan their career.
