A student rushes out of the house after a late start in the morning. Her mom rushes to drive her to school, and it takes 10 minutes just for her to get out of the car to cross the street because cars are coming from both ways. It seems like an accident is waiting to happen.
“I always noticed cars blocking the exit,” senior Amy Montero said. “It was really dangerous and I’m glad Ms. Schneider made this request.”
Principal Ms. Schneider sent out a letter to parents informing them of a the issues of dropping off their kids at the front main entrance on 192nd street. She is advising them to use 192nd street as a one way street; only coming in from 35th avenue and go out through Francis Lewis Boulevard.
“It’s a dangerous situation over there,” Ms. Schneider said. “Everyone is only concerned about their own schedule.”
Starting November 18th, sixth and seventh graders will only enter and exit school through exit 4D. However, other grades will continue to use the main exit. Tips to keep students safe are to drop off and pick up students on another block. Also, breakfast is available upstairs at 7:30, so come early
“I think it was really smart because there was always a lot of screaming and chaos [because people were trying to get in and out] so I’m glad she sent out the letter,” seventh grader Nicole Csatari said.
