After seeing footage of a robot doing a backflip, Elon Musk has come to the conclusion that robots will be the end of humanity. Boston Dynamics was responsible for the frightening video of the robot.
Musk believes there should be regulations on robots, similar to food and drugs, because of how advanced the technology is getting, without any regulations on their possibilities. He stated that these robots are a “fundamental risk to the existence of human civilisation.”
Atlas, the robot in the video is 6’9” and weighs 167 pounds, is able to jump over various obstacles, twist, turn, and even do backflips, sparking Elon’s distasteful remarks.
Atlas can manipulate the ground to travel on rougher terrain and also has range sensing and stereo vision.
Musk has been extremely vocal about the regulation of robots and believes, “In a few years, that bot will move so fast you’ll need a strobe light to see it. Sweet dreams…”
Andrew Dedomenico, junior, stated, “Robots are going to be the death of us.”
Katelyn Aurigemma, junior, said, “The robots are frightening as they are right now, but they’ll only get scarier in the future.”
The world is a scary place, and it seems that what we’re afraid of is only a taste of what’s to come in the coming years.
