St. Patrick’s Day Parade falls on Friday, March 17th. The parade starts at 11 am on 5th avenue between 44th and 79th street and ends around 5pm.
St. Patty’s parade has been a tradition going on since 1762 in New York City. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on the 17th of March because that is the day that Saint Patrick, who was a missionary in the 4th century that converted the Irish to Christians, died.
Now, St. Pats day is a holiday celebrated by all races and religions by wearing green.
“St. Patrick’s revelers [who] thought wearing green made one invisible to leprechauns, fairy creatures who would pinch anyone they could see (anyone not wearing green). People began pinching those who didn’t wear green as a reminder that leprechauns would sneak up and pinch green-abstainers,” says The Christian Science Monitor.
“St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday for all. You get to dress up, hangout with friends and eat corn beef and cabbage. What’s better than that? Nothing,” senior Stephanie Mantilla said.
WNBC-TV 4, is broadcasting the parade on Friday, March 17, from 11am to 3pm, for those who cannot come to the parade.
