Student ambassadors and the student law court visited the INTREPID Museum on November 18 for Power of One lecture presented by Kim Ghattas.
Ghattas, journalist for BBC News, spoke to students about her journey to becoming a journalist. Her advice to students is to never give up even if there are people who tell them that they won’t make it.
Although Ghattas and her family weren’t refugees during the Lebanese Civil War, she mentions how life would be different if she was. Ghattas would’ve lived in a different place and have a different career path.
“I learned that war that existed back then still exists today. The lecture inspired me to become a journalist,” freshman Julia DiMarcello said.
Students took a short tour of the museum before the lecture.
“Students had the opportunity to meet a world renowned journalists who served as a role model and mentor for students to never give up and pursue their dreams,” assistant principal Mrs. Poulos said.
