The famous Spanish El Clasico happened this week, where the two strongest Spanish soccer clubs faced off. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona went head to head this weekend, leaving a huge mark in this season.
El Clasico is a two year event, having the two biggest clubs versing one another on the big stage, to determine which is the top soccer club in Spain. One match is held at Santiago Bernabeu in Real Madrid, and the other at Camp Nou in Barcelona.
Los Blancos faced a tremendous loss against their bitter rivals, FC Barcelona, with Luis Suarez sealing a double nailing the coffin of the Spaniard giants shut. The Catalans dominated the game with 61% possession and 17 shots on target. Players like Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Neymar de Santos rose to the challenge to substitute the lose of FC Barcelona’s star player Lionel Messi who didn’t get to play much of the game until the 51st minute.
“I was only upset about the first two goals and just became more accepting of the loss . I knew players like Ronaldo and Messi weren’t going to apply much. They normally don’t do to well when coming with El Clasico. Besides that Iniesta’s goal was just amazing and it broke my heart even more,” senior Jonah Sampedro said.
This win has now created a gap in the La liga table causing FC Barcelona to stay on top of the table with 22 points while Real Madrid follows right behind them with 21 points. The next time the both super giants will face off will be in the following year on April 3rd in Camp Nou on Barcelona’s home territory.
