Since the school is celebrating their tenth anniversary this 2015-2016 school year, there are a lot of events and ideas approaching the table to make this year special, and spirit week is one of them.
Students in the tenth grade who are a part of Student Government are in charge of planning this year’s spirit week. Although they are in the very beginning of the process and still proposing the week-long event, they have very big things already planned. Saying that, they are trying to plan a spirit week that includes fresh and fun ideas for the school to enjoy.
“This year’s spirit week is going to be very unique compared to previous ones. We have new events planned and since it’s the school’s tenth year anniversary, I definitely see there being a deeper meaning to this spirit week,” Student Government advisor Mr. Nisonoff said.
Spirit week is planned to happen the week of Halloween. As of now, the idea for Monday is still up in the air. However, the ideas for the rest of the week have been proposed. Tuesday is going to be Twin Tuesday, Wednesday is going to be Wear Pink for Breast Cancer Wednesday, Thursday is going to be Superhuman Thursday for Childhood Cancer Awareness (people dress as a superhero to support Childhood Cancer Awareness), and Friday is going to be Costume Day in celebration of Halloween the next day and there will be a contest for who has the best costume.
“We came up with the ideas by sticking to themes close to Halloween since we’re planning it for that week. However, planning it is a bit difficult because the tenth grade slate goes through a lot of bickering and fighting over different ideas but it’s very fun planning a big event like this,” sophomore Christina Maldonado said.
Spirit week is one of the most anticipated events for WJPS. Students have had a lot of fun with it in the past and they sure will this year too.
