In the first month of school, students have a hard time readjusting back into the daily routine of schoolwork. After having a long, relaxing summer vacation, students tend to feel lazy, nervous, and frightened for the year to come. However, there are some ways to help students get back into the academic shape they were in.
Plan out the time.
Organization is essential for academics. Students need to make sure that they’re on top of their game every single day. Planning time is necessary when entering a new school year. Knowing what assignments are due and when they are due will guide the students throughout the year.
“Academics is always a priority but once Summer came the flow of work stopped and I fell into bad habits like laziness. When Junior year began, I wasn’t able to have as much of free time that I did in Summer. A daily routine was one of the things I had to create,” junior Bella Lassus said.
Be ahead of the game!
Doing work on time may be a hassle for students this day of age, especially since students nowadays tend to procrastinate and leave assignments for the last minute. However, if the students do decide to get back into academic routines and gain confidence in schoolwork, doing assignments ahead of time (way before they’re due) it will give the students an advantage of not being stressed, and it’ll allow them to feel accomplished. On the plus side students will feel relieved from the stress when they finish assignments earlier than anticipated.
“School is a huge change in priorities than what I was used to during Summer break. Junior year is no joke with all the work I’ve been getting. I’m starting to get back into motion of academics but, it’s a really big struggle to make that transition. I overcame this transition by completing assignments ahead of time,” junior Melanie Liapis said.
Consistent studying
Imagine this, sitting home alone watching television and not feeling any emotions whatsoever. Students would probably mumble sayings such as “I’m so bored,” or “I’m so tired, that there are no good shows anymore.” Well, maybe it is time to consider studying. A majority of students agree that they only study when it is absolutely necessary such as a day before an exam so therefore there will be no point of studying whatsoever. However that is where they’re wrong! Having a consistent study schedule will allow the students to be ahead of the class, and be prepared for example later in the year. Well you may be asking yourself, “What if you don’t have anything to study with ” Well, that is when you can sign up for an education website (such as www.khanacademy.com) and study material that were discussed in class or students can read over the notes that they took from class.
Getting back to work, a statement no one wants to hear, (especially after a long summer vacation) however these tips will help students alleviate stress and put them ahead of their work. Staying organized, keeping a consistent studying schedule and being ahead of time, will help you progress throughout the school year and will guarantee success in the future. Keep on learning!
