The WJPS minecraft team, Diamond Sword Bustamoney, was welcomed to City Hall on October 21st to celebrate their first win last year for the Mayor’s Cup, Minecraft Education: Battle of the Boroughs.
The team consists of WJPS 12th graders: Wendell Joseph Quilang Jr., Lillian Kong, Bryan Chiu, Victoria Agusasvivas, Kevin Zhang and their coach/teacher Mr. Lai.
Kong said, “I really wanted to know if we would actually win the competition; some people only joined to play, but we joined to win!”
Chiu said, “There’s a unique perspective on how you play the game and it’s nice to play with other people”
The officials in attendance at City Hall included the Deputy Mayor, Adolfo Carrion; the host of Battle of the Boroughs, Luiggy Gomez; the Schools Chancellor, Melissa Aviles-Ramos; and the Commissioner of Media and Entertainment, Pat Kaufman.
With hopes to inspire other students to join the Minecraft Club after their middle school years, the Minecraft team prepares for the next Battle of the Boroughs.
