October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time to spread awareness for the disease that impacts millions of women across the world.
WJPS is showing support by encouraging students to wear pink every Friday throughout October to honor survivors, lost loved ones, and to promote education about the cause.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but if caught early, it is highly treatable. Awareness efforts during this month emphasize the importance of regular tests, and to learn about the risks.
By wearing pink, students and staff members are helping to spread a message of hope and show that no one is fighting alone.
The color pink has become a big symbol for breast cancer awareness; it represents courage and the determination for a cure.
WJPS 11th grader Analee Bisono said, “I think it’s really nice to see people showing their care and compassion for such a serious disease that women should not have to go through.”
WJPS 12th grader Valentina Vargas said, “This is a great way for everyone to come together for something that really matters. An act as small as wearing pink helps to start conversations that advocate for breast cancer awareness.”
