Casper the Friendly Ghost is a character that has been around since the 1940s, appearing in various cartoons and comics. In 1995, a movie was released entitled Casper.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the comedy and fantasy film.
Casper is a film about a father, Dr. Harvey, and daughter Kat, move into a haunted house to research the ghosts residing there, planning to eventually vanquish them for the owners.
Upon moving in, they are greeted by Casper, the friendly ghost. While scared at first, they begin to adapt to the situation and Kat becomes very close to Casper.
The film was originally released in May, however, since the movie has become a tradition for many to watch around Halloween, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have decided to re-release it into theaters.
WJPS 12th grader Daniela Vicente said, “Casper being in theaters is a throwback to my childhood. I remember watching it and having a great time. I think it’s a great way to start off the spooky season.”
WJPS 8th grader Anastasios Karam added, “I’m glad that they’re bringing back a classic.”
It was re-released on October 3rd and is set to run until October 31st. Tickets are available for purchase online or in person in participating theaters.
