The Multiplex Cinemas in College Point has recently been sold off to Tesla.
This cinema was first opened to the public in 1999, and has been used for over two decades.
There have been changes in the area after Toys “R” Us and Party City closed leaving Multiplex Cinemas the last business in the center.
According to QNS Tesla signed the lease to use the 150 thousand square foot area in late October 2024 for its own use.
As of now, Tesla plans to repurpose the former theater into a two-story facility.
Angelina Rosario, a WJPS eighth grader, who lives near the area said, “I feel bad, due to the fact that it played a big part throughout my childhood. It doesn’t benefit me or the community, just the company.”
Another student, Emily Morales, a WJPS 10th grader who also lives near the area said,“I don’t approve or appreciate it, because I feel like it should be in a different type of environment. Lastly, I don’t feel like it benefits me as a student.”
