Many teachers assign work nearing the end of the year, while often students are already occupied with studying for many exams.
The months before summer are the prime time for AP and Regents tests.
Also, if someone is retaking the SAT, this will be the time they are studying for it.
It is also slightly demoralizing to students, considering there has been a lot of work for the past couple months.
For upperclassmen, instead of coursework, there should be time in class to review one’s resume, college decisions, and other things that are beneficial to their future.
For some students, it looks like teachers wait until these last couple of weeks to start piling on assignments.
However, these assignments should’ve been evenly spaced out through the year, not when the year is coming to an end.
Another aspect of this problem is that if the student does poorly on these assignments, it can taint their end-of-the-year average.
WJPS 11th grader Brianna Limandri said, “I do feel like there’s been more work in the last couple weeks, but it’s different teacher to teacher.”
WJPS 11th grader Panagiota Sfelonitis said, “Yes, it feels like there is more work when we are about to enter summer.”
