Waking up early for school is something many students dread. Getting up and rushing to get ready on time is already difficult for some.
This sometimes affects their ability to work. Students often come to school feeling tired, stressed, or even unprepared. Starting school an hour later, around 9 AM, would give students the chance to wake up feeling more rested and ready to learn.
Many students stay up late not because they want to, but because they have homework, chores, or other responsibilities.
When school starts too early, some students don’t come to school on time because they accidentally wake up late or sleep in because they need more sleep.
Sometimes students who live farther away from school and wake up early experience still transit issues that make them late.
Willingness to make a small change by scheduling school slightly later could make a big difference.
WJPS 8th grader Amaia Carrasco said, “School starting an hour later sounds great. Sleeping for a little longer and getting up later would keep me energized.”
WJPS 10th grader Ruby Panepinto said, “If school started later, I think it would benefit a lot of people. More people can be on time to school, and some people don’t have to wake up as early.”
