WJPS hosted the 3rd Annual Joanna Sophia Foundation Walk, a tradition that brings students, staff, and the community together to raise awareness for epilepsy and SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy).
The event began with participants gathered at the school, wearing the designed Joanna Sophia Foundation T-shirts. The T-shirts, which must be purchased to participate, served as a contribution to the foundation.
All of the proceeds go directly to the Joanna Sophia Foundation, helping to fund awareness, research, and support for those affected by epilepsy.
All participants walked to John Bowne Park.
After reaching the park, participants returned to the school where they were welcomed with ice cream.
The foundation began in 2019 when nine year old Joanna Sophia lost her life to epilepsy.
WJPS teacher Mr. Thompson said, “I think it’s amazing we get the opportunity to support a foundation in the community and bring so many people together.”
WJPS seventh grader Sophia Saldivar said, “I’ve always looked forward to this walk, the shirts are always cute and I learned a lot about the foundation.”
