After 41 years of working for the New York City Department of Education and 18 years as a guidance counselor at WJPS, Mr. Lumetta is retiring.
He will take his leave at the end of the school year, his last official day being June 30th.
Mr. Lumetta said, “I think it’s important to close one door and move on to another. However, I will certainly make an effort to attend the next graduation and Thanksgiving feast.”
Mr. Lumetta’s favorite part about his job has been the daily grind. He enjoys interacting with students and staff, as well as outside agencies.
He has a love for the problem solving aspect of the job.
Mr. Lumetta said, “I like making things that don’t work, work; making a system that doesn’t work, work for our students.”
He also enjoys being interviewed by WJPS’ journalism students.
He said, “I always have fun doing interviews and seeing what students have to ask me.”
Mr. Lumetta is feeling excited about his retirement and the new adventure it will bring. He is looking forward to learning and experiencing new things, as well as re-engaging with things he’s done in the past.
Fellow guidance counselor Mrs. Paplow said, “Mr. Lumetta and I have been working together for 16 years and it will be strange not having him around, but I wish him the best in his retirement.”
