A recent policy at WJPS now requires students to scan their school ID before and after they use the bathroom. The school also has a strict 10-minute bathroom rule. This policy restricts students from using the bathroom 10 minutes before and after class.
At WJPS there are also different bathroom monitors each period to track how many students use the facilities and for how long.
The required ID can be a major issue for students because many school IDs are in lockers, and the time spent rerouting to lockers, then the bathroom, back to lockers, and then to class is very time-consuming for the students.
This policy can cause students to miss more class time than they would already by using the bathroom.
WJPS ninth grader Arturo Mendoza said, “I don’t really see the point of getting our IDs just to use the bathroom even when we sign before and after we use the bathrooms.”
WJPS 11th grader Daniella Torres said, “I personally don’t use the bathrooms that often, but this new rule is probably just a way to keep students from roaming the halls.”
A solution to this problem would be to remove this new policy because of how tedious it can be for students, but continue the 10-minute bathroom rule.
