Get your Coca-Cola delivered to you by hydrogen with the world’s first hydrogen powered vending machine.
These vending machines will be installed by Coca-Cola and Co-developer Fuji Electric, at the World Expo 2025, on April 13th in Osaka, Japan. Since these devices rely on replaceable hydrogen cartridges that produce electricity through an electrochemical reaction, there is no need for a power source.
At the expo, visitors were able to learn more about how hydrogen power works through signs displayed on the machines.
There has been criticism since the news of these machines on social media. Some commented on the speculation of hydrogen powered products actually being environment friendly. However, there are also comments on the pros of these machines.
WJPS 12th grader Haylie Soto shared, “It’s a smart move since they [Coca-Cola] are a big company. It’s a step to reversing global warming.”
WJPS 12th grader Lorie White said, “I think that using hydrogen cartridges instead of other power sources is super innovative and could have a really good impact on our planet if the use is widespread and saving energy is also a plus, overall I think that’s really great.”
