There is no free driver’s education program currently in WJPS. This is a problem because some states don’t have a statewide curriculum and they are able to obtain their license for free.
Schools near WJPS that provide driver’s education are Holy Cross High School and Saint Francis Preparatory School.
The driver’s ed course for Holy Cross is 795 dollars.
At Saint Francis Prep, the tuition for driver’s education is 590 dollars.
These prices are unfair considering Alabama, Minnesota, and North Dakota don’t have a statewide curriculum, or require drivers to complete a driver’s education course to obtain their license at 17.
A possible solution is a more available and affordable driver’s education program. It would benefit everyone on the road if driver’s education was a part of the curriculum for more high schools.
WJPS 11th grader Eleni Tsiakas said, “I think driver’s ed is expensive, but overall worth it because you learn the rules of the road and take driving classes, which help you become a better driver.”
WJPS 11th grader Brianna Limandri said, “Yes, it’s expensive for something that’s law mandated. Even if you choose to do a six-hour course, it’s a lot of money.”
