Despite winter coming to a close, roads may still be slippery into late March and early April. Snow tires can make driving safer during these conditions. There’s a variety of brands and tread types to pick from when it comes to snow tires.
Tread types are important because there is a range from aggressive and non- aggressive treads. The difference is that aggressive treads are thicker and have larger gaps in the pattern for more harsh conditions and sometimes make a humming sound when driving at high speeds. Less aggressive patterns are typically for highway use and are typically less noisy.
When picking a snow tire for your car, there’s plenty of brands to choose from like Firestone, which is well known for its aggressive off-road snow tires, and its wide availability for multiple vehicle sizes.
WJPS 12th grader Diego Figueroa said, “I’m going to start using snow tires during the winter. I would rather spend the money on proper tires rather than crashing.”
WJPS 12th grader Jalen Marte Rivas said, “I agree with this. About two weeks ago, my mom’s car actually started sliding on the road and it took a while to stop. It could have been bad. My mom said that it was because the tires weren’t meant for the snow.”
