School starts relatively early in the morning, many say too early. Students need their sleep, so school should start later.
This could result in students getting more hours of sleep and in turn being` more awake. This would likely result in students being more participative and productive throughout the day.
According to betterhealth.vic.gov, studies show people who are sleep deprived report increases in negative moods (anger, frustration, irritability, sadness) and decreases in positive moods.
Sleeping more would help students be in a more positive mood and not be so aggravated throughout the day.
This change would be very beneficial for not only students, but also teachers. Teachers mainly wake up even earlier than students do to be on time before students enter the classroom, so if school started at a later time they would be better rested and ready to teach.
WJPS 12th grader John Mihalios said, “Yes school should start a little later in the day. I feel like if I were to sleep in longer, I would be more awake and more motivated to do schoolwork.”
WJPS 12th grader Alexa Llenas said, “If school started later, I wouldn’t feel tired and would overall be in a better mood.”
