March Madness is a tournament for all division one college basketball teams in the U.S.
Last year’s winner was the UConn Huskies beating Baylor University.
This tournament started in 1939 and the first winner was the University of Oregon.
At that time, only eight teams were competing, and now there are 68 teams.
St. John’s University from Queens is expected to make the tournament, currently leading the Big East conference.
WJPS 11th grader, Anthony Canale said, “Seeing that local team in Queens doing well, I haven’t seen them in a while, and it’s exciting.”
WJPS 11th grader, Noah Lim said, “St. John’s is one great college. I’m interested in seeing them play well and hope to see them in the tournament.”
The tournament begins March 18th and concludes April 7th with the championship game.
