Public transportation should be free to everyone. One reason why people take trains and buses is because buying cars is too expensive.
Public transportation isn’t expensive, but it gets expensive over time. If someone takes the bus four times every day for a year, the total would be over $4000.
WJPS 12th grader John Mihalios said, “I think it should be free because if you are taking public transportation it’s most likely the easiest way or only way to get to your destination especially for younger people and people who cannot afford a different transportation.”
Students get the advantage of receiving OMNY cards that are given at school which allows them to be able to take subways and buses for free every day of the week between September and June. This should also be given to people who cannot afford public transportation.
WJPS 12th grader Camryn Chan said, “Public transportation should be free because some people don’t have the money for it and if buses want to charge people it should definitely be lowered to $1.50 maximum.”
It is not possible for trains, buses, and subways to be free, prices should be drastically lowered so that people can afford them.
