The newly renovated Queens Public Library in Bay Terrace is now open. Renovation began in April 2022, closing the facility, and it reopened in December.
With a cost of $6.1 million, the interior and exterior have been fully renovated, with new furniture, shelving, more rooms and areas/sections, as well as new roofing, ceilings, floors, walls, electrical and mechanical system, and technology.
Many NYC Council members were at the ribbon cutting ceremony, as well as the Queens Public Library CEO and President, Dennis M. Walcott. Walcott stated, “Bay Terrace Library is an essential part of this community, and we know how much people have missed it…We are thrilled to welcome them back to a modern, inspiring space that is accessible to all.”
WJPS ninth grader Christopher Provenzano said, “I think it would be a good investment if it was actually going to be used. They could have used a little less money.”
WJPS technology specialist Mr. Myrtil says, “Back in the day, kids would go to the library to either study or wait for their parents to pick them up. I don’t think they would actually go to get a book.”
