This year’s Game Awards took place on December 12th. The event was hosted live in the Peacock Theater, located in Los Angeles.
The Game Awards is an annual event meant to honor the year’s best published video games, and announce new projects in the works by game developing companies. It was live streamed across multiple online platforms globally, reaching up to 154 million viewers.
There were several categories of awards that different games competed for, such as “Game Of the Year”, “Best Narrative”, and “Best Art Direction.” This year, Sony Interactive’s newest game, “Astro Bot,” was crowned the winner of Game of the Year for 2024.
To add on further to Astro Bot’s newest achievement, it shared the most nominated game for multiple categories with seven nominations alongside Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and ended up winning four awards. The event featured several musical performances from Snoop Dogg, Twenty One Pilots, and d4vd.
WJPS 12th grader Rixiery Montoya Hernandez stated, “I think this year’s awards were deserved overall, and the game reveals were really hype.”
WJPS 12th grader Preston Ng said, “I watched some of it on YouTube. It was cool, but I don’t know why Snoop Dogg was there.”
