Students entering their junior year should definitely sit for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) if they are considering going to college.
The SAT is a standardized exam that is taken to determine the students academic ability before college.
This exam specifically focuses on reading and math skills. The SAT’s are administered around early March, but students can take it before then.
To prepare for the exam, many students pay for SAT prep courses outside of school which can be expensive.
According Thecollegeinvestor.com, the average cost for SAT prep in person is about $1,800 per course.
This cost should encourage schools to provide SAT prep courses either as a class or during after school.
WJPS 11th grader, Panagiota Sfeliniotis claimed, “I think that schools should offer at least a minimal course for students to help better prepare them for the SAT because it is something that will affect their futures and what college they decide to go to.”
WJPS teacher Mr. Lai stated, “We’ve had it in the past, so maybe there isn’t enough student interest. I recommend doing it on your own.”
WJPS should provide accurate textbooks, practice exams, and inform students of what to expect on the exam.
