Mental health days are just as important as taking sick days. Having bad mental health can often lead to an excessive amount of missed school work, depression, social isolation, and feeling anxious or worried.
Although it’s not good to miss school, it would be beneficial to skip school on some days to maintain good mental health.
WJPS 12th grader John Mihalios said, “Students go through a lot with school, work, sports, and family matters that they have to attend to.”
With the hard work they put in, students barely get any rest and likely not enough sleep which causes them to be mentally exhausted from all the work which could lead to a decline in mental health.
WJPS 12th grader Ariana Lucin agrees, and said, “I think schools should let students take mental health days; there’s no point in going to school completely burnt out knowing it’s going to affect your grades negatively. I think it’s smarter to let students have a few mental health days rather than force them to go to school and bring their grades down.”
