A new soccer stadium in Willets Point, Queens is expected to accommodate the NYCFC (New York City Football Club) by the year 2027. However, with CitiField and Arthur Ashe Stadium all close to each other, the traffic may be too much to handle.
With concurrent sports events happening in these three stadiums, there will be a large influx in the number of people who arrive in cars.
This may result in longer waiting times for people trying to enter and leave the parking lots. This also poses a problem on highways that lead to the stadiums.
Plus there are only two train lines that stop at Mets-Willets Point, which doesn’t seem to be enough. In order to tackle the traffic more train routes that travel directly to the stadiums should be added.
WJPS 10th grader Angelo Stamatakis said, “The traffic is going to be a problem and it’s going to cause issues.”
WJPS 12th grader Ariana Lucin said, “There’s already a lot of people passing through that area, so building that stadium is going to make the traffic worse.”
