Mr. Johnson, WJPS’ earth science teacher, was recently approved to teach a college level earth science class.
Many students signed up to be a part of the class, exclusively for juniors and seniors.
Students were required to create an account with CUNY College Now, as well as one for Brightspace. Brightspace is a website where they do their assignments and submit them for grading.
This is a new class that has never been taught before at WJPS. Classes are on Tuesdays after school from 2:30 to 5:20 most weeks, depending on when students complete their assignments.
Participants must listen to the lesson, do their classwork, then complete a lab with their table mates. This class is only during the fall semester, at the end of which, students are required to take a final exam, determining if they get college credits for taking the course.
WJPS 11th grader Eleftheria Karam said, “I”m a part of this class and I think it’s a great opportunity to get early college credits.”
WJPS 11th grader Daniella Torres said, “It’s comforting taking the class with a teacher I know in the school I go to, versus with strangers at Queens Borough.”
