As the new school year starts, some people in the WJPS community have begun making new complaints – the amount of time between periods.
The time seems to be too short. Officially, the schedule only gives students two minutes to head to their next period class, which makes the hallways very crowded and only makes it more difficult to get to classes.
For some students and teachers who have to move between classes in the basement and third floor, they have to immediately start heading to their next period class. It is a big inconvenience for these people to pack all their belongings and make it in time.
Not only does this make hallways more crowded, but it also would decrease the amount of time teachers can spend with their students in between periods.
Some students and teachers also have to deal with traffic with IS25 students. For example, period 5 for IS25 ends only a minute after 5th period for WJPS.
For instance, if a student had questions for a teacher after class, they either couldn’t get to class on time or risk being late. If they stay, a teacher has to write a late pass which can be time consuming. More time between periods would solve these problems.
WJPS seventh grader Jacob Mendoza said, “It was better last year because you could go to classes faster.”
WJPS Assistant Principal Mr. Petrotta said, “Bells have always been two minutes long, if not then you should notify a teacher.”
