Students who are taking Advanced Placement (AP) exams that are provided by their high schools are required to pay for each exam.
At WJPS, these classes include world history, AP seminar, AP US history, environmental science, precalculus, computer science, AP research, macroeconomics, English language, and English literature.
The payment process for AP exams are through the family inquiry online at Myschoolapps and cost at least $98 for each exam.
Some families can’t afford to pay for several AP exams. This can be an issue because if you are taking an AP class you are required to sit for the exam to receive college credit.
WJPS 11th grader Markella Georgiou stated, “I understand it may seem like a lot to take a test but if you pass, it does save you money in terms of not having to pay for that class in college.”
WJPS 11th grader Valery Cardona Calderon stated,“I think AP exams shouldn’t have a cost because for many students it’s mandatory to be in one so I think you shouldn’t have to pay for an exam that is required and not everyone has the resources to cover it.”
A solution would be for the College Board to let all students take the AP exams for free.
