Sometimes a week’s full of work is crammed into 45 minutes. Some teachers give students assessments for either learning checks or to conclude a lesson. Why is that a student’s grade is depicted on a time limit?
Giving students a reasonable time frame to complete difficult assessments will benefit their grades. Students are able to comprehend questions correctly when they’re not worried about finishing on time.
Teachers are always telling their students to double check their work and make sure everything is answered correctly and confidently.
How does this apply to students when they are rushing through their test and guessing because they’re stressed or have developed anxiety?
Adding more time to lengthy exams, especially for complex classes, students would be scoring much higher on exams. This is opposed to students rushing to finish their test and failing an exam that is worth 50% of their grade.
WJPS 12th grader Jordan Juarez said, “No, 100% not. I would’ve done a lot better in complex classes like physics or chemistry if there was more time.”
WJPS 12th grader Preston Ng said, “Tests should be longer than one period to allow for deeper assessment of understanding, better engagement, and reduced anxiety for students.”
