Quantum computing is a new type of computer science that is able to solve problems much faster than normal computers such as your phone, without using as much space. This opens computing possibilities not previously available according to NYU News.
Normal computer chips represent data in zero’s and one’s while quantum computers represent data in qubits which is a quantum bit and a bit is data such as 0’s and 1’s used in coding. But Quantum bits or qubits represent values between zero’s and one’s.
While quantum computers also store data more efficiently, using less space than a normal computer. They are able to use the power of entanglement which means that one qubit will be able to change the state of another qubit extremely fast. You can imagine entanglement as dominos knocking each other over whereas our normal computers as having to knock down each domino individually by hand. This means that they can transport data in theory faster than light or teleportation according to the MIT Technology Review.
WJPS 10th Grader Maxwell Sanz said, “Quantum computers are able to solve problems that would take a normal computer thousands of years in a few minutes.”
WJPS 10th Grader Ali Abdelhalem said, “I think quantum computers are cool but I think that they are just faster and not really that much different.”
