As the fall sports season has kicked off, student-athletes who dedicate themselves to sports and school are busy for the next few months. WJPS 10th grade student-athlete Mariana Martinez Morales is one of them.
Morales stated, “Besides high school, I also play for Manhattan Soccer Club. I like to stay well rested so the next day I have energy to do everything I have planned.”
While playing club soccer and high school soccer, Morales believes it’s important to have the day planned for herself.
“I think the most difficult part is keeping my main focus in school and staying in line with my grades.” Morales said.
Some student athletes can struggle with keeping up with their grades or they need to leave school early to make practices and games, which all can affect their classwork and grades.
To help her stay motivated, she said, “What keeps me motivated is my parents because they believe in me and give me hope.”
