On September 18th, New York City Football Club played against Philadelphia Union at Yankee Stadium. This is one game of the New York-Philadelphia rivalries that goes on throughout the MLS season.
New York City Football Club lost the game five to one against Philadelphia Union. They were down three to one at the halftime whistle and then proceeded to concede two more goals by the final whistle.
While NYCFC lost the game five to one, the crowd at the stadium continued to support the team.
WJPS 12th grader John Mihalios said, “The atmosphere of the games is amazing and the fact that they play at Yankee Stadium makes it better because of the history the stadium has.”
Alonso Martínez scored the only goal for NYCFC while Philadelphia Union’s Tai Baribo, Mikael Uhre, Dániel Gazdag, Jakob Glesenes and Jesús Bueno all scored against NYCFC to win the New York – Philadelphia derby.
WJPS 10th grader Kiriakos Zournatzoglou said, “Watching my favorite players play against strong teams and being able to win is my favorite thing about NYCFC games.”
