MTA’s Outlandish Prices

MTA%E2%80%99s+Outlandish+Prices

MTA bus prices have increased more and more out of nowhere. MTA prices were $2.25 for a long time and out of nowhere the price increased to $2.75 in 2015. Now as of August 20th, 2023, it increased to $2.90.

Without the 15 cent increase, the MTA made seven billion dollars, according to Statista, in 2022. MTA prices should drop back to $2.25 because increasing the prices out of nowhere isn’t fair for people who can’t afford it.

Additionally, students shouldn’t get a limited amount of swipes on their student cards. Some students have to travel back and forth and if they run out of rides then they won’t be able to get to their destination for free.

Lots of people use MTA services if they are unable to use a car or can’t take any other way of transportation; raising the prices for the MTA just makes it more difficult for the public.

WJPS 10th grader Nickholas Zubovic said, “I hate it. I wish I could say it way more because I used to go to work for so cheap and now they want me to pay almost three dollars for an MTA ride.”

WJPS ninth grader Valentina Molinari said, “I don’t like it. It’s not good because this is how people get to school and work so it’s too much for the public every day.
