Senioritis

Senioritis

As AP exams come to a close, prom approaches, and classes get light, many WJPS seniors are treading through the rest of the school year.

This high school phenomenon is called “senioritis.” Admissions decisions from most US colleges have all been administered by April 1st the latest, and since then a wave of relief hit all the seniors as they got a college.

Senior teachers are affected by senioritis as well, as many grow tired as seniors care less about classes.

WJPS 12th grader, Nicholas Persad stated, “At the beginning of my senior year I was still in a mindset where I wanted to keep up with my work and stay on top of my grades, but as the year progressed and college decisions were released I started to get extra lazy and focus more on social aspects rather than my school work which led me to fail one or two classes.”

WJPS 12th grader, Alejandro Ortiz stated, “Stuff like AP tests and high grades and exam scores don’t matter as much for trade school as it did for college, I didn’t find the need to try my absolute best but I still tried to get the best grades I could. Sadly, I definitely wasn’t putting 100% effort as I did in previous years.”

WJPS teacher Ms. Marks said, “It’s definitely sometimes a struggle to motivate students to continue to work but I think it’s important to keep the integrity of whatever course you’re teaching and keep your demand high because they’re still going to college and still going to work. Keep the work ethic going because the path isn’t over yet.”
