The 2024 NFL Draft took place in Detroit, Michigan from April 25th through April 27th.
This three day event presents the opportunity for young prospects to enter the league.
The Jets and Giants were teams with multiple draft picks this year.
The Jets looked to strengthen their offense this draft, ensuring that their first five picks were offensive players.
They drafted (left tackle) Olu Fashanu, to strengthen their offensive line, (wide receiver) Malachi Corley to provide an extra weapon for Aaron Rodgers, (running back) Braelon Allen, (quarterback) Jordan Travis to learn from Aaron Rodgers, and (running back) Isaiah Davis. The Jets also picked up (cornerback) Qwantez Stiggers and dDefensive back) Jaylen Key.
The Giants also looked to strengthen their offense, drafting (wide receiver) Malik Nabers at sixth overall. The Giants also drafted (safety) Tyler Nubin, (cornerback) Dru Phillips, (tight end) Theo Johnson, (running back) Tyrone Tracy, and (linebacker) Darius Muasau.
The first overall pick in the draft was (quarterback) Caleb Williams from USC, drafted to the Chicago Bears. Williams is a Heisman trophy winner, throwing over 3,300 yards in his 2023 season.
A couple WJPS students had some thoughts on which team they believe ‘won’ the 2024 NFL Draft.
WJPS 9th grader, Alan Gonzalez said, “I think the Bears won the draft because they received the extremely talented Caleb Williams who will certainly elevate the offense of the team.“
WJPS 9th grader, Kiriakos Zournatzoglou said, “The Bears definitely won the draft because they had two first round picks, using one to get a franchise quarterback, and the other for a franchise wide receiver.“
