The debate of TikTok has reached many people around the globe and informed them with new discussions surrounding its ban. This can be the potential outcome for its diverse community of users.
The New York Times claims that this popular social media platform has faced inspection from various areas raising questions about the platform and the experiences of those who made that app a part of their lives.
TikTok is more than a platform or an app for entertainment. Rather, it’s a place where people can get creative and connect with other people from different places with different backgrounds around the world. For example, there are dance challenges, comedy skits, informative videos, and news. Many people have made TikTok their careers since revenue can be generated off the videos they make.
However, with word going around of a ban it shows a need for discussion. Last month, the US House of Representatives voted to restrict the app. The bill still needs to pass in the US Senate.
Whether the ban happens or not the creativity of the app will always be remembered and the community that defines TikTok.
WJPS 11th grader John Mihalios said, “I’m on TikTok a lot and so I think it would be bad for it to be banned even though there are alternatives like Instagram, Snapchat.”
WJPS 11th grader Emma Oliveras said, “I think TikTok’s ban is unjustified and shouldn’t happen.”
