WJPS’s annual career day took place on February 9th. The event returned after four years due to the COVID pandemic.
There were dozens of people who volunteered to come from varied careers and backgrounds: some family, friends, and even alumni.
The visitors shared their journeys to getting where they are today to each of the classes they visited.
Some students were happy as they got the opportunity to see someone from the career they wish to pursue, others were inspired by the careers presented before them.
One of the visitors of the event was New York State Senator John Liu. He spoke with the senior government class where he explained the structure of the government about what hedoes, and how that relates to students every day.
To capture the essence of the whole purpose behind career day, each visitor left a message to students to hold with them into their college careers and perhaps into their field.
Speech pathologist, Ms. Aisha Demosthenes stated, “You have to work hard for what you want to do because nothing comes easy.”
Oil rig worker, Ms. Desire Mercari stated, “It doesn’t matter what you do or what you want to be, as long as you are the best at it.”
Pharmacist, Ms. Georgia Vouniseas stated, “Going into college in whatever field you pick, make sure to stay passionate and to never lose the drive. It’s going to get hard sometimes, but if you push through you’re going to achieve everything you hoped for.”
