Previously WJPS has hosted an annual career day that started in 2012. It was a day to present the school with various careers and occupations that can perhaps inspire the younger generation on the path they wish to pursue.
Now, after four years, career day is returning to WJPS on February 9th.
The careers presented are from past alumni, volunteers, family, and friends of the WJPS community. In the past there have been lawyers, members of the FBI, nurses, engineers, physicians and journalists.
WJPS assistant principal, Mr. Yarmy said, “We are looking to expose students to a variety of options for jobs and careers allowing them to interact with alumni, parents, and other professionals for career day. We hope to have a really diverse set of careers for students to ask questions. Most importantly students will have a choice to dig a bit deeper and see about different careers they might not have enough information on, but once they do, maybe they can pursue it too.”
WJPS ninth grader, Aaiza Shahzad said, “I think I’m going to learn a lot about different careers and stuff and there’s been so many new jobs after 2021. It will be great to see. I do think everyone can learn something on career day.”
Each visitor explains what their career is like, the time in school needed, necessary skills, fun facts, information, and general life advice.
