Whether the United States should provide free healthcare or not is a touchy subject with many strong opinions. Although there are downsides, the pros outweigh them. Free healthcare can be a great thing that will help many in the United States who can’t afford it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control(CDC) there were more than 27 million uninsured people in the U.S. as of 2022. Many of these people can’t afford treatment which can be life threatening. Providing free healthcare can make a difference in anyone’s life.
WJPS 11th grader John Mihalios said, “The U.S. should provide free healthcare because there are people that can’t afford it and what are you going to do about sick people that need help?”
Free healthcare can also encourage people to get regular checkups. By getting checked regularly they can catch anything wrong early on before it can become harmful.
WJPS 10th grader Hannah Rollins said, “I do think America should provide free healthcare because it will just benefit everybody in the end and people wouldn’t have to worry about the expenses of health.”
Overall, healthcare is unfortunately not something many people have access to and removing the financial committment can really make a big change in people’s lives that can’t afford it.
