Schools in Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Oklahoma, and Oregon, are among those that offer a four-day school week, while many other states, including New York have a mandatory five-day school week.
New York City schools should be included in the list of four-day schools, since we do not utilize many snow days. Perhaps all schools in New York state can adopt a four-day week, and each day that school is open can have extended hours.
WJPS 12th grader, Sophia Turner said, “I think we should have four days because kids need a break.”
WJPS 12th grader, Isabella Montoya said, “I think it is a good idea because then teachers, staff, and students can have a break.”
If our school were to be in session for only four days, it is possible that students would be more focused and it would be less stressful for students and teachers alike.
