Vaping Sensors in School

Vaping+Sensors+in+School

Over the past few years there has been a significant increase in teenage use of vapes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2022, 14% of high school students and 3% of middle school students admitted to using vapes.

Vape companies have been heavily advertising to teenagers, by offering various flavors including strawberry kiwi and blue razz.

A company named Triton Sensors wants to provide schools and districts with vaping sensors in hopes of decreasing the amount of students vaping.

WJPS senior, Johan Lee said, “I don’t really think that vape sensors would stop people from vaping in the bathrooms since the students would find other methods to vape.”

WJPS junior, Jonathan Reyes said, “I do think vape sensors in bathrooms would help decrease the number of students vaping, however, there is a higher chance that students will break the sensors. If they don’t, they’ll probably ultimately find a way around the sensors to vape.”
