There have been 14 school shootings this year that resulted in injuries or deaths. There have been 158 such shootings since 2018,  according to edweek.org. These numbers are unacceptable. 

Through these last few years, school shootings have become a larger issue due to their rising recognition and mortality rate. This begs the question of what should be done to resolve this issue. 

Bulletproof windows have become a popular investment for schools in the U.S. after the recent Nashville incident, where the shooter opened fire through the windows of an active classroom. With these attacks becoming frequent, the idea of bulletproof windows in WJPS grew. 

WJPS assistant principal, Mr. Yarmy stated, “It’s a bandage solution. We can hide from it, but we’re never going to be completely safe.” Mr. Yarmy stressed the disability for a completely safe environment in schools. 

He continued by stating, “Instead of investing in bulletproof windows, I believe investing in gun reform would be more beneficial.” 

Creating roadblocks will only slow down the threat while altering the birth of the issue will completely eliminate it.
