New York, New York is a new Broadway musical that officially opened on April 26th at the Saint James Theater. WJPS students went on a trip to see a preview on April 18th.
WJPS senior Jessica DeRosa said, “I went on the trip with our school to see the preview and it was amazing.”
Another WJPS senior, Acelin Lunetta, said “I originally wasn’t going to go on the trip, but I changed my mind and I’m very glad I did because the show was awesome.”
Inspired by the 1977 Martin Scorsee movie written by Earl Rauch, the musical is centered around aspiring saxophone player Jimmy Doyle and established singer Francine Evans. It is set in the 1920s during V-Day celebrations at the end of WWII, which is where the two meet.
New York, New York stars Colton Ryan from Dear Evan Hansen as Jimmy, Anna Uzele as Francine Evans, and Angel Sigala, Ben Davis, Oliver Prose, and Emily Skinner.
