Queensborough Community College is offering in person and online classes over the summer. Each class grants three college credits to rising juniors and seniors.
The requirements to sign up for the class are a passing high school average or minimum score of 75+ on the ELA Regents, but if you haven’t taken the Regents yet, a GPA of 85+ for four semesters of English are required.
Generally summer college classes fill up before the start of the program and so it’s vital for students who are interested to sign up immediately to get into the class of their choice. Nevertheless, the latest deadline to sign up is before the end of the school year.
Classes run Monday through Thursday from July 3rd through August 3rd.
WJPS assistant principal Mr. Petrotta said, “There’s a lot of great programs that are included by doing a summer college course that students get access to.”
WJPS junior, Maleny Argudo said, “It was a good chance for the juniors and seniors to go to find out because they like to have a lot of programs like financial aid. One of them is like the ASAP program. I would recommend this to other students because it would help them with their college applications and like there’s things that you’re going to learn that you don’t know like not getting yourself into debt.”
WJPS junior, Isabella Prez said, “The general college courses are pretty good because they kind of give you the entirety of a college course, but in just like in a few sittings. So it’s not like you have to take it in college and you get the college credits in a much shorter time than it would take you in college.”
If you’re interested in any of the classes below, email [email protected] your high school transcript, full name, grade, school, OSIS number, phone number, and first and second class choices or speak to Mr. Petrotta immediately before all spots are filled.
