Students from the WJPS broadcast and newspaper teams were invited to attend Columbia University’s Scholastic Press Association 99th annual Convention in March.
Students were given the opportunity to go to various workshops held at the university and learn more about journalism from different professors from many different schools.
Sarah-Anne Lanman, a teacher at Munster High School in Indiana who teaches yearbook, newspaper, photography and introductory to journalism, stated, “I’m really excited to attend this convention. I used to work as an editor in my school’s newspaper which inspired me to teach more about journalism. I think this convention is awesome and it’s the best thing for journalists to come together and work together.”
WJPS junior, Eliza Kurshimulu who attended the convention stated, “I loved all the different workshops that were offered to us. I was able to see first how the passionate mindset and creativity works. The convention made me interested in taking these classes next year.”
